HeroesCon: Day 2 - Review

We were there for our early entrance at 9:30. Down side? Not many of the people we wanted to see were there yet! Even by 10:30, a bunch were still MIA.

We had our plan of attack set. Tom would go with HT to see Ethan Van Sciver and I would be a few down to see Hunter (if he showed). Well, Van Sciver wasn't there and neither was Hunter.

Well, HT loved CT's Spongebob that Gregg Schigiel did so much, he wanted one. He sweetly asked him for a Spongebob and Gregg asked if he wanted him as a Green Lantern. I thought HT's head was going to explode. Check out Spongebob as Green Lantern!

While HT was at Gregg's booth, Tom noticed no one at Skottie Young's! Woohoo! We wanted him last year (he had to cancel understandably) and this year he seemed too busy to ask for a sketch. Well, CT went over and asked for a Wolverine sketch (to make OC happy). Skottie obliged (and Tom says he was very, very nice). Here's our Skottie Young Wolverine! YAY!

Then HT saw Jamie Cosley again and he asked for a sketch of Casper (he had a painting on his table of Casper). HT pointed out just about all of his super hero art was gone, and he was right. Jamie said he sold most of them and I was very happy for that. HT told him was a great artist. His son was there and I asked how he looked the con. he said it was great. He had paper there and I asked if he drew at all and he said yeah and showed me a sketch he had done.Know what? he's good! Jamie said he was proud of him and I bet he is. If I had more money, I'd buy more stuff from Jamie. I adore his stuff and really, he's just that good of a guy. I want him to succeed and do well doing what he loves. Wow, I kinda rambled there, sorry. Here's Casper.

While waiting for Casper, Tom picked up his commission from Chris Giarrusso. OMG! It's sooo cute! We got compliments on it walking around too. It's Booster Gold & Blue Beetle. Look!!!!!

Tom took Cole to SL Gallant's booth. CT loved HT's Snake Eyes so much, he wanted Storm Shadow. We dropped off his book as he takes awhile to do his sketches but rightly so. Meanwhile we went elsewhere but when we came back, look at the amazing drawing he did! We thought Snake Eyes was awesome but this one is even better of that's possible?!?!

We decided to walk and see who else we could find since it takes him some time. We went over to Stephane Roux who wasn't there as he was working on painting his piece for the art auction. We went past Gallant's booth but he was still working on the piece which was fine. We walked some more. I wanted to stop by Amy Mebberson's booth as I saw her cool stuff on twitter but she wasn't there at the time (but she was there before that so I knew she'd be back shortly). So we wandered over to someone who had caught my eye on twitter. I had seen her posts on twitter with the #HeroesCon hash tag. Tom saw them too and agreed they were cute and the boys might like them. We stopped by the small press area to see Beck Seashols (aka Beckadoodles). Cole dug her stuff. HT was "meh" until he saw the Fantastic Four done as kitties! He asked her to do The Human Torch as a kitty for him. She said sure and started drawing. CT kept looking through her book. We kinda bull crapped about cats and strays and  her love of wiener dogs. Her art was really cool in his book and I felt bad about her doing such a great job, so I pulled out a dollar to buy a photocopied-like sketch book thing she had for sale. Then she handed HT his book and said, "That'll be $10.00 for the sketch". A just barely 5 year old asked for a sketch in his sketch book and you're charging him? I mean, we paid, smiled-like and walked away kinda annoyed. My thoughts: If HT really still wanted her to draw in his book, and I knew she was charging money, I would have steered him in a better direction. I would have  pointed him towards asking for Dexx-Star and would have hoped it had more details/background. She had sketched a SUPER quick cat on the back of the "doodle book" I bought and that is all I expected. I know she has to make a living; I myself, am a Graphic Designer, I get it but I just wish I knew ahead of time.

I will say that HT thought that the gal next to Beck had the cutest thing - a Daffy Duck as Deadpool. He kept laughing and pointing to it and it was so cute. She was sooooo sweet. She reached down and handed him a 4x6 photo paper copy of the print, just because! How awesome is that? It's so adorable! Anyway, I HAD to take her card. Her name is Danielle Soloud and I looked at her stuff online, I'm impressed!

And while waiting on Beck, Tom went over to grab the Adam Warrock CD. He knows them from Kirby Krackle. If Kyle & Jim like him, he's worth a buy.

HT stopped by Scott Kolins' booth. He went to ask for a sketch of Wolverine. Scott said he was only doing signatures now since he was so backed up with commissions. HT just looked cute and Scott said, that maybe he could do a quick sketch of a head or something. I explained how that's all he'd expect anyway and how he loved the quick simple sketches just as much as the ones that take a lot of time and he'd love it no matter what. So He dia a super quick Wolverine and know what? He's a happy camper! Thanks so much Scott!

We just wandered a bit but the kids were done asking for sketches and that was fine by us! CT asked to stop by "That guy who does the Panda Dog Comics" and I said, sure. CT just wanted to stop by and say Hi. I think he digs that we actually talk to Rob. I told Rob I read his Issue Zero and I loved it. He mentioned how the 1st Issue would be in color and such. I told him I didn't even realize it currently was NOT in color. He said thanks and said that was a great compliment. It was just a cute story and great artwork and I cant wait to find out what the dogs, cat and gorilla have up their "sleeves".

Upon turning the corner, My kids saw Wolverine and well, Wolverine is very big in my house. OC is the biggest fan but I think was sort of scared. He instead took photos with my iphone. See?

I got this awesome shot of Wolverine matching wits with Green Lantern.

Then as we promised, they got to look at toys.
